Chiefs Sign Seventh-Round Pick RB Javarris Williams

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Thursday that the club has signed RB Javarris Williams, the team’s first of three seventh-round draft picks.

Williams (5-10, 223) joined the Chiefs as the club’s first of three seventh-round selections (212nd overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. He played in 43 games (33 starts) at Tennessee State, setting school records with 4,329 rushing yards and 42 rushing TDs. His 849 carries and 44 total TDs rank second in school annals, while his 264 total points rank third. He added 58 receptions for 788 yards (13.6 avg.) with two TDs.

Williams started 10 games, rushing 207 times for 1,037 yards (5.0 avg.) with 15 TDs in 2008 to earn first-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association. He also caught 19 passes for 245 yards (12.9 avg.) with a TD. Williams was voted the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 103.7 rushing yards per game and 96 points.

The Richmond, Texas native earned All-Houston Area, all-district and All-Texas first-team honors as a senior at Foster High School. He added second-team Class 4A all-state accolades after rushing for over 2,300 yards as a senior. In addition, he had 1,299 rushing yards as a junior. Williams also participated in track and field, winning the district title in the long jump.
