Kansas City Signs Free Agent WR Amani Toomer

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Tuesday that the club has signed free agent WR Amani Toomer.

Toomer (6-3, 203) played in 190 games (142 starts) over the past 13 seasons with the N.Y. Giants (’96-08). He caught 668 passes for 9,497 yards (14.2 avg.) with 54 TDs and rushed 12 times for 110 yards (9.2 avg.) with a TD. Toomer holds Giants franchise records for receptions (668), receiving yards (9,497), TD catches (54) and 100-yard games (22). He has also added 109 punt returns for 1,060 yards (16.6 avg.) with three TDs and 15 kickoffs for 257 yards (17.1 avg.).

The Concord, California native has appeared in 11 postseason contests (nine starts), including a 17-14 victory by the Giants in Super Bowl XLII. He has caught 44 passes for 608 yards (13.8 avg.) with seven TDs and has added one carry for six yards and eight punt returns for 45 yards in postseason play. Toomer concluded his collegiate career ranked second in Michigan history with 143 receptions, racking up 2,657 yards and 18 TDs for the Wolverines. He earned high school All-America honors from USA Today, The Sporting News, Parade and Super Prep as a senior at De LaSalle High School in Concord, California. He was also named the Gatorade California Player of the Year.

The Chiefs waived TE Tony Curtis on Tuesday. Curtis played in 16 games (six starts) for Dallas a year ago.
