Sep 20, 2009, 4:19:36 PMOn dominating stats but unable to win: “That’s football for you, unfortunately. We weren’t able to pull it off at the end of the day. We had the opportunity to win but today, we had things that happened throughout the day that we hurt ourselves with, whether it was offense or defense or special teams. The Raiders did a good job and made the play when it counted; therefore they’re going home with the victory.”
On the end of the first half: “We were trying to get the ball out of bounds and we thought we could get a play off and we called a play toward the sideline; unfortunately we were unable to get the ball out of bounds.”
Since you were out of timeouts was there any thought that you had to throw that one into the end zone at that point? “The play was kind of designed that way but it just didn’t work out. That was something I have to take responsibility for and throw that ball away or do something to get us in field goal range.”
On WR Bobby Wade: “Bobby did a great job today. He stepped up; he worked hard all week. He came in and really made a huge impact today. I was happy to see him step up. It was just one of those days that he was getting the ball a lot and he got open and we gave him the ball.”
How do you get over a loss like this? “It’s game number two. Right now we know we are 0-2 but, then again, we have 14 more of these games. We’re optimistic. We know that we can play better football and that’s what we’re going to shoot for.”
On his coming back following the knee injury and having to scramble around a lot: “It felt good today and that’s why I was out there playing. I was happy to be able to move around; I just wish I would have hit a few more throws – some of those I think I was a little rusty on. But, at the same time, we put ourselves in a position to win at the end of the game.”
When did you know you were going to play? “I think we made the determination more so yesterday. We had a good week of practice and I made progress each and every day. With the day off yesterday I felt like I could go. ”
What can you take out of this game, heading into next week, even though this was a loss? “We did well on both sides of the ball. We moved the ball consistently on offense, but we hurt ourselves [with too many mistakes]. If we can eliminate those then we will have some more successes. The defense played a great game, they really did. We just have to keep pushing forward. We’re going to keep our heads high. Like I said, we have 14 more of these so we are going to be ready to go.”
