THE MATCH-UP
The Chiefs visit FedEx Field for just the second time as Washington hosts Kansas City on Sunday. The Chiefs have won four straight meetings with the Redskins, tying as the club’s longest active winning streak against another franchise. Kansas City has also won four straight against St. Louis.

Kansas City is concluding a brutal four-game stretch against NFC East opponents. The Chiefs are coming off a gut-wrenching 26-20 OT loss vs. Dallas (10/11). Kansas City jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the contest and was either tied or ahead until Dallas took its first lead of the game thanks to a 59-yard TD catch by WR Miles Austin with 2:16 left in regulation. Austin put the fi nal dagger into the Chiefs heart with a 60-yard TD for the game-winning score in OT.

The Chiefs are still seeking the first victory of the Todd Haley era. Kansas City’s last visit to the nation’s capital produced the initial win of Dick Vermeil’s tenure as head coach with the Chiefs recording a 45-13 victory over a Redskins squad coached by Marty Schottenheimer (9/30/01).

Washington is in its second season under head coach Jim Zorn. The Redskins enter this week’s game following a 20-17 loss at Carolina (10/11). The N.Y. Giants, Detroit and Carolina have all won their initial game of the year against Washington, a feat the Chiefs would also like to replicate.

Haley is well versed with facing the Redskins. As an assistant coach under Bill Parcells with Dallas from 2004-06, Haley faced Washington six times as the two clubs split those meetings. Haley also visited FedEx Field the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel has thrown a pair of TDs in his last three contests and owns a streak of 100 straight passes without an INT. Cassel’s seven TD passes are the club’s best tally through five games since QB Trent Green had 12 in 2002. As a team, KC owns a +7 TD-to-INT differential, tying Minnesota and New Orleans for third in the league behind Indianapolis (+8) and the N.Y. Giants (+8). The Giants, Colts, Saints and Vikings own a combined 19-0 record. KC returns home next week to face San Diego (10/25), while the Redskins have a Monday Night Football contest at home vs. Philadelphia (10/26).
